I hope these B1G expansion rumors are false.....14 school membership is big enough (for a 12 game regular season).
However, if the NCAA increases the FBS regular season to 14 games (with 11 of 14 games in-conference), then I would be supportive of 16 team or even 18 team super-conferences. |

Actually 16 or 20 teams make more sense. |

I prefer one big happy conference. Replace the NCAA with the B1G and we will all gladly join in.

Currently, there is no mention of further B1G expansion on ESPN (online or on TV). The rumors being cited may be old (from the end of January.

The speculation on [<s> #</s> B1G] expansion surely is blowing up Twitter faster than I can type this. [Tom Dienhart <s> @</s> BTNTomDienhart ] If North Carolina--the bedrock ACC school--bolts for the [<s> #</s> B1G], what will become of the ACC? there is this......lets not forget, it wasn't that long ago, that innermind was posting about Maryland and Rutgers, and we all thought it was just crazy scutttlebutt. |

there is this......lets not forget, it wasn't that long ago, that innermind was posting about Maryland and Rutgers, and we all thought it was just crazy scutttlebutt.Yeah, but Maryland has always been the redheaded stepchild in the ACC. UNC is the ACC. No suprrise that Maryland jumped, but UNC is a different situation. I live in the Raleigh/Durham area and have a lot of friends with pretty big atheletic ties. Everything I've heard is that there really isn't a lot of interest in jumping ship. From the comments and looks I get there is the whole, "we are a southern university ... why would we want to go into a conference in the midwest?" Of course, this all means that they will jump ship tomorrow. :) |

Well, if there is more movement, and Duke doesn't join, I will be one angry guy. You can expect me to post about it here Mr. Delany!

Can't believe North Carolina would jump without Duke. The way I grew up - really getting into football in the 1970's - I never thought we would see Nebraska and Oklahoma get ripped apart from each other. |

Nebraska/OU, Texas/A&M, Mizzou/KU, WVU/Pitt, Utah/BYU, realignment does not respect rivalries, especially basketball rivalries. Football is driving the train and Duke/UNC can play ooc in basketball, no big loss otherwise.

Sad but true. Although I do think rivalries help fuel a program and if UNC is smart they won't leave without Duke. I wish Oklahoma had stuck with Nebraska when they formed the Big XII but they opted to abandon the rivalry because they still had Texas. Honestly Nebraska vs Oklahoma had turned into a national event and OU/Texas will always be regional one and I think Oklahoma knows that know but oh well. Killed the best rivalry in college football. Thanks Bin Laden. |

LawDawg, I do business with the ACC and they laugh at all of this stuff in the Grandover offices...especially when it comes to UNC or UVa.

There is an ACC culture that I don't think people outside of it understand. Especially the Tobacco Road schools. I'm an SEC guy, but with an ACC brother, and living in the middle ACC mecca, I've gotten a good taste of it. I can see teams like FSU and Miami jumping ship as they haven't been around that long. Bit UNC and UVa, I just don't think so. |

What many on these boards may not acknowledge is that Delaney--the B1G commish is probably the best businessman of all the major commisioners. Maryland wasn't added to the B1G for it's football reputation so much as it's history in basketball PLUS it's TV demographics (inroads to the south). If any conference can guarantee UNC enough money to jump to another conference it is the B1G. UNC is only as loyal as the $$$ bottom $$$ line. |

This isn't the way it works if a conference openly made an offer to another school then they would OPEN themselves to (lack of the real legal term) interferance or meddling suit."tortious interference"? That came to my mind too but I dont remember it being mentioned with the Maryland move. |
