Here's my conclusion with the Joe Flacco vs. Matt Ryan debate. Taking into account that Ryan has better weapons and more attempts, their stats are very similar in the regular season (7.1 YPC for Flacco and 7.2 YPC for Ryan) over the past 5 years. So I think that addresses your not looking at just 5 games. Calling that a draw (especially since Flacco has made the playoffs every year), the next level is to look at how each have done in the postseason. Flacco maintains a nice 7.2 YPC, where Ryan drops off to a 6.6 YPC. Flacco has also cut down on the int's over the last few seasons. Ryan had more this year in 2 games (3) than Flacco has had in the past 3 years in 8 games (2). That, to me, is a clear advantage for Flacco. If you ask me to pick between 2 QB's who both get me to the postseason pretty much every year, but one has proven he can win in the postseason and not crack under the pressure, I'll take the later and that would be Joe Flacco.Let me start by saying I really don't disagree with someone who says they'd prefer Flacco. I just disagree and prefer Ryan.

Second, I am curious why the only reg. season stat you used was YPAAs I stated before. Ryan's total numbers are scewed some by having more attempts in a more pass-happy offense. I went with an average stat to show the results based on what happens when they dropback over how often they dropback. At this point it is agree to disagree. I'll take Flacco and his 5 playoffs appearences to Ryan's 4, Flacco's 3 Conference Championship Appearances to Ryan's 1, Flacco's 1 Super Bowl Ring to Ryan's 0. |

TD and INT %, as well as QBR and comp. % are not really skewed by the number of attempts. Now, if I said something like this, I'm sure someone like the kid would tell me how offbase I am, however, I'll just chalk that up to a mistake on your part. I guess one number would be skewed, and that would be the amount of fumbles. Of course, it's not in Flacco's favor, as it's telling he had twice as many fumbles with far less pass attempts. |

Another that jumps out is the amount of fumbles Flacco has had. He's had twice as many, with 48 to Ryan's 23.Agreed that 48 fumbles is too many, but if you look at the sack numbers, Flacco is much higher there too. That seems to indicate poorer offensive line play. I know from watching the Ravens that indeed over the last 5 years, the offensive line has not been a great strength, especially in the passing game. Still, can't be fumbling the ball 10 times a season. |

Still can't be fumbling the ball 10 times a season. That's way too many times, but at least he improves some in the postseason. In the postseason he fumbles once every 2.6 games while in the regular season it's once every 1.6 games. |

I know this year, the improved O-line certainly helped him feel more comfortable in the pocket as well and was a huge help for his run in the playoffs. |

A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald...striking. So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver, he hauls off and whacks one- big hitter, the Lama- long, into a ten-thousand foot crevice, right at the base of this glacier. And do you know what the Lama says? "Gunga galunga...gunga- gunga lagunga." So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know?" And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice. |

He will probably fumble a lot more now that he will have that huge superbowl ring on his throwing hand.Still can't be fumbling the ball 10 times a season. That's way too many times, but at least he improves some in the postseason. Might be why they don't resign Ben Watson. |
