How come Rivers does not get a lot of respect?February 24, 2013 10:49 pm
Well Rivers had a horrible coach his whole career for one. And people only care about team stats (superbowls). That's the biggest reason he doesn't get a lot of respect.
If you could take the last two seasons out of the equation (horrible coach, bottom 10 O-line, mostly no real receivers), and if you could focus on an entire 5 year span leading up to that, he's top 3. But two reasons really, okay 3. 1: People only care about superbowls (which are pretty misleading) 2: People want to hate 3: People have short memories, and his last two years are his worst In a nutshell, trust me, those 3 reasons are why he doesn't get a lot of respect. |

RTTRUTH pretty much nailed it. As a Chargers fan who has seen him play he definitely has his fair share of turnovers and mistakes but I know that when he has a decent o-line, he looks elite out there. The fact that there is new management and some coaching changes will definitely help him get his groove back.
Also, I've found it quite hilarious as to how some love to label him as a "douche" because of his bantering and nagging attitude on the field. The fact is that he HATES to lose and he's a highly competitive player who likes to trash-talk. Off the field this guy is a very charitable and class act person. I just hope a new supporting cast can help the Chargers steer the ship in the right direction. |

But two reasons really, okay 3.
1: People only care about superbowls (which are pretty misleading) 2: People want to hate 3: People have short memories, and his last two years are his worst well, the 2nd reason aside (every player has their haters), 1 and 3 are EXACTLY why Rivers doesnt get alot of respect. i think Rivers is really good and still can be great if he can get back to his old self, but like your reason 3 said, his last two years are his worst and they were. last year in particular was bruatal with turnovers. i remember what he did though which is why i am not quitting on him to being great. |
