Adam Shefters says Giants ink Beatty

Fluker dropped weight before the combine and teams noticed.. Everything you hear from the guy is he works his ass off to be as good as he can possibly be.. He is moving up the draft boards.. I would like that pick as well

Retaining Beatty was one of the Giants' major off-season priorities. He started 15 games for the Giants in 2012 and solidified himself as one of the better left tackles in football.

Beatty was +22.3 overall, according to the Pro Football Focus scoring system. That placed him 12th overall among tackles. He allowed only three quarterback sacks and, a[ccording to PFF], no tackle in the league allowed his quarterback to be hit (sacks + hits) fewer times than Beatty. In addition, his +10.6 run-blocking score made him one of only four left tackles to score above +10.0 in that category.

i always thought that beatty was solid althought i do actually agree with ripped that he gets called with a lot of penalties on big plays.. alot of the time game changing plays... his cap number for this year is 3.5 mill which really isnt bad.. it doubles next year to around 7 mill but the Giants will have more money to spend next year

Beatty is OK but does have potenial to get better. Eli doesn't get sacked a lot because he's good at avoided sacks and getting rid of the ball, I mean they won 2 Super Bowls with David Diehl and he's always been more of a guard so I think Beatty has room to grow because he is pretty athletic and only 27. The Giants were smart because they were in a no win situation because franchising him would have cost 10 million and there are teams like Arizona, Philly and Green Bay that would possibly sign him. They need to build the offensive line, I have never seen the Giants get manhandled up front like they did in the some games this year, especially the Cincinati game. I think the sacks allowed number doesn't express how bad the line played at times this year and they need to address it early in this class with guys like DJ Fluker and Jonathan Cooper. The Giants are probably going with a James Brewer/Sean Locklear combo at RT unless they get DJ Fluker who they are almost guaranteed they will take and Jonathan Cooper can be a star at any position on the interior if Fluker is gone and he's available.
