Good luck with that Baltimore.  Flacco is good QB.  Not highest paid in NFL history good though.

i agree! this contract will turn ugly, when flacco has to carry the team, because they don't have enough cap space for elite D players.

As a Steelers fan.. this is the best nfl news one can hope for given a rival winning the SB.  Being crippled by said rival's elite qb dream salary is a small takeaway.. if it makes the rest of their suffer to pay quality guys going forward.

[Joe Flacco] and the [Baltimore Ravens] have agreed to a six-year contract in excess of $120 million that makes him the highest paid player in NFL history, a source familar with deal told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The two sides will work on the contract language throughout the weekend and Flacco is expected to sign the deal Monday in Baltimore, sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.

Drew Brees is currently the highest paid player in the NFL, averaging $20 million per year. Flacco's deal will be somewhere north of that, a source confirmed to Schefter.

When Eli Manning won a SB the Giants responded by making him(at that time) the highest paid QB in the league.  That was absurd.  Joe Flacco wins a SB for the Ravens and they make him the highest paid QB in the league.  That is equally absurd.

I love it. Every dollar spent on Flacco is another dollar they can't spend on someone else. Put as many eggs in that basket as you can.

As a Steelers fan.. this is the best nfl news one can hope for given a rival winning the SB.

I'm glad to hear that the Ravens winning the Super Bowl is the best news a Steeler fan can hope for.

Be careful what you wish for.  Flacco consistently carves up the Steelers and will continue to do so for a long time.  His deal is structured so there will be cap space, and it's only for 6 years so they can extend that another 4-6 years to get relief in the later years of the deal.

Ozzie Newsome knows what he's doing.  An accurate strong armed passer is going to be protected by a well paid O-line.  When Flacco has the time, he's a sniper.  After being the winningest QB over his first five years, he's just now coming into his own.  Ozzie can fill in the blanks through the draft.  I have no doubt he'll once again work the draft like a master.  The Ravens have 11 picks this year and I'm sure it will be heavy on defense with some late round O-linemen and speedy WRs sprinkled in.

Fear not fans, Brees and Rogers are coming due and Flacco won't be the highest paid for very long.    The Steelers will dump Rottenburger rather than pay him, and Pig Ben, realizing he's just not worth much, will take the pittance that Dan Rooney offers....and becomes second string to the Steeler's first round pick.

Drew Brees signed a new contract this past season.
Maybe you meant Aaron Rodgers and Matt Ryan.

You are correct.
Rogers may ask for the moon and the stars, but I don't think Matt Ryan comes to the table with a stronger argument than Flacco's

Damn...you Steeler fans are really concerned about Flacco aren't you? Actually I'm finding it as SCARED of Flacco. They see Joe on the rise and the Steelers on the fall.

Let's be honest...is Flacco worth more than Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, etc? No. But he had them over a barrell and he knew it. The Ravens didn't want to give him the contract he wanted last offseason, so now he's making them pay through the nose.

They HAD to sign him. What were they going to do? Start the backup? Draft someone?

If they hadn't have given Flacco that money, someone else would have. Baltimore knew that so they paid up.

I would like to point out though that when Flacco said he was going to stick it to the Ravens - a lot of their fans here thought he was kidding.

Nope.

Hey stup[id...they don't have Ravens radio in DB Wyoming. You are as usual clueless as to what the wording of the contract is. you have no idea how it is structure so as usual you go off halfcocked and ramble about what you know nothing about.....Simple common TROLL is all you are. It will be a shame when you finally see how cap friendly it really is as word has already leaked out about year 1 in Baltimore.....Pity you are such a common TROLL and don't know anything about a NFL contract STRUCTURE nor how it works.

Are you limpwristed Ravens flamiac? I've never seen anyone stalk a female so much and just talk so hateful to them like you do. Then again maybe you just like her. Or perhaps she hurt your pride. Why are you so emotional and she's not? Stop embarrassing yourself.

Nice AV....I guess when your perennial "This is our year" team finally makes the playoffs I'd be still full of hate too....especially after being 1 and done. But hey...you're still the 2nd best team in Maryland. Congrats.

They had no choice toplay him this money. There is no other qb out there worthy of a starting spot. He had the Ravens by the balls and they had to cave. Is he worth that money? Absolutely not but unless someone else good was out there, they had no choice to pay him.

It depends on what you value.  5,000 yard seasons or wins.

If nobody can figure out how to stop the deep passing attack that developed after BAL's o-line shift & bringing in the new OC then he will be worth every penny.

Agree OJ.....When Cam was fired and Calwell became OC we all say a sigh of relieve from Joe. There was tension betwen he and Cam and it affected his play. Caldwell plays to Joe's stregnths and Cam played to his own ego. There seems to be great chemistry between Joe and Caldwell. I really beleive we bring McKinnie back...but later in the year but before camps start. Joe's contract from what is being leaked is very cap friendly. His 1st year is less than a $10,000,000 cap hit.
