Keeper League

March 5, 2013 11:52 pm
Good evening all. I need a little advice as I keep debating my 1st round pick. I am in a yearly keeper league and this year I currently have the 6th pick in the draft. Most likely Fielder, Verlander, and CarGo will be there. One day I lean towards Fielder, the next Verlander so I can have a rotation led by him and Strasburg. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Roto, H2H, points?  How many teams in your league.  Is it basic 5x5 or custom scoring.  And define yearly keeper league as I'm not sure what you mean by that..

It is H2H. Every year any player drafted in rounds 1-3 are not eligible to be kept. But if u hit on somebody in round 4 the following year u can keep him as a 1st rounder if u chose so. Basically u move up a guy 3 rounds every draft. The 3 I mentioned are mostly to be there as I figure Cabrera, Braun, Cano, Pujols and probably CarGo get drafted before my pick. We have 12 scoring categories for hitters as well as pitchers. So that's why I don't know if Fielder or Verlander should be my pick. Thanks for the help

Cabrera & Braun should be gone, but from what I've seen in a few mock drafts Cano could fall to you so he'd be my first choice as you can keep him for one more year.
If not yea, you've got a tough choice.  I'm gonna answer this the way I answered a similar question earlier.  If any two of Goldshcmidt, Butler or Craig are available in your draft and you think they will fall to you with one of your next two picks then go with Verlander as you can still get a pretty good first baseman later.  If only one or none of these guys are going to be available then take Fielder and assure yourself a big bat at first.
I also don't know your keepers so if you and you have one of the players I mentioned above, you're back to Verlander.
And I don't know the size of your league but if it's more than 12 teams go with Fielder automatically, otherwise stick with what I said above.

I understand the thought of Strasburg & Verlander as your 1-2 is tempting, but if it leaves you with a big hole at 1st then it's not worth it.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

Jim smart but Natas smarter this time.  He pick good guy that throws hard.  I like Verlander, he better guy to have.
