Which is ironic, since the new CBA was supposed to give the vets more money that wasn't being spent on rookies. Although the new CBA dropped the cap down a notch too from 2009-2010. Yeah, I wanted Ellerbe, but not at the price Miami paid.
Isn't there supposed to be a cap minimum salary going into effect too soon? |

There's guys getting over-paid, as always (Paul Kruger, Desmond Bryant, Darnell Ellerbe, Danny Amendola, Jermon Bushrod, etc.) but I'm very surprissed about the paltry deals the pass rushers are getting (outside of Kruger). I mean the Seahawks got Cliff Avril AND Michael Bennett for around 12 M this year...BOTH. Or, to put it differently: exactly what the Broncos would pay Elvis Dumervil (please Doom, take the cut and stay).
No, IMO, the Broncos would have already been done in free agency if it wasn't for the pending Doom situation and the recent Quinton Carter situation. That being said: DEs Dwight Freeney, John Abraham: One should be added even if Doom stays. Of course, if Elvis remains in the building, the FA addition will be used on situational rushes, which better suit their abilities. If not, we are looking at a 30+ starting defensive end with issues with age and the running game. Also, the team should keep an eye on possible scheme casualty Trent Cole. DBs Tom Zbikowski, Adrian Wilson: I would feel a lot better if someone pushes the underwhelming Mike Adams and the promising Rahim Moore, just to improve the position. Specially with Moore, the team HOPING that he continues improving so ti would be nice to have a "safety" blanket...get it? Anyways, cast offs Jim Leonhard, Bernard Pollard, Louis Delmas and Michael Huff are some names that come to my head that could start or, be effective as the 3rd safety in some packages. |

Sorry for the double post!!!
Another thing is something that I read earlier. The Defensive Players of the Year for 2004 (Ed Reed), 2005 (Brian Urlacher), 2008 (James Harrison) and 2009 (Charles Woodson) are all still out there. You could probably also add 2007 DPOY Bob Sanders to that list, but he didn't played at all last season. I wouldn't mind seeing Urlacher in a Broncos uni...if he has anything left in the tank. |
