Pirates get Wandy Rodriguez from Astros

The Pirates have acquired Wandy Rodriguez from the Astros.

The Astros will pay $12 million of the approximately $30 million remaining on Rodriguez's contract, and the surprising Pirates will get help in their bid to make the playoffs for the first time since 1992. Minor leaguer outfielder Robbie Grossman and pitchers Rudy Owens and Colton Cain will go to the rebuilding Astros.

Rodriguez is 7-9 with a 3.79 ERA in 21 starts this year for Houston. The surprising Pirates have had a strong rotation, but have also had some concern that it would hold up during a pennant race.

The Pirates are still looking to add a hitter. They have had a scout monitoring the Brewers-Phillies series this week, and could have interest in Shane Victorino.
