Report: Doug Fister throws 10 pitches with no setbacks

By Matt Snyder | Baseball Writer

Injured Tigers starting pitcher Doug Fister threw 10 fastballs off the mound Monday and experienced no setbacks, reports MLB.com.

"He threw today and felt good," manager Jim Leyland said (MLB.com). "A little stiff, but he felt good. It's just a process."

Fister, 28, left his April 8 start with a left costochondral strain in his rib cage. There's still been no timetable set for his possible return, but being able to throw 10 pitches is a pretty good step forward. Obviously his level of soreness Tuesday morning will be important and then the Tigers will progress him from there.

Fister was 8-1 with a 1.79 ERA and 0.84 WHIP in 70 1/3 innings for the Tigers last season after coming over in a trade from Seattle. Left-hander Adam Wilk is occupying the spot vacated by Fister in the starting rotation.
