Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo fined for his Hamels comments
Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo has been fined an undisclosed amount of money by Major League Baseball for his comments about Phillies starting pitcher Cole Hamels, reports Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.
To recap, in case any baseball fan has been dormant since Sunday afternoon, Hamels plunked Nationals 19-year-old phenom Bryce Harper in the first inning Sunday night. Harper eventually came around to steal home. Then when Hamels came to bat, Nats starter Jordan Zimmermann hit him in retaliation. After the game, Hamels honestly told reporters he hit Harper on purpose, as a kind of "welcome to the majors" hazing.
Rizzo didn't care for it, and called Hamels "classless" and "gutless" and "fake tough" and "chicken[expletive]."
And now he's been fined. With Hamels suspended, Rizzo fined and several people of note chiming in on the suspensions, I'd say we can safely put this thing behind us. Starting now ...
