Jason Hammel loses no-hit bid in seventh inning, throws first career shutout
Orioles
Hammel, 29, had only thrown one complete game in his career -- which came back in 2009 -- and had previously never thrown a shutout. So this was easily the best outing of his career.
The Orioles haven't had an individual no-hitter since Hall of Famer Jim Palmer threw one on August 13, 1969. Four pitchers -- Bob Milacki, Mike Flanagan, Mark Williamson and Gregg Olson -- combined for a team no-no in 1991.
There have been four individual no-hitters this season (Philip Humber*, Jered Weaver, Johan Santana and Matt Cain*) and one team effort (the Mariners).
