Bryan LaHair to RF; Anthony Rizzo to Chicago?

By Dayn Perry | Baseball Writer

Anthony Rizzo

Fact: The Cubs have moved Bryan LaHair to right field. Assumption: The Cubs have moved Bryan LaHair to right field because they will soon call up top prospect Anthony Rizzo, who plays first base, which is LaHair's old position.

That's how Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reads the tea leaves. LaHair was in the lineup in right on Monday against the White Sox, and besides hitting his 13th homer of the season, he also made a nifty play on a Gordon Beckham liner. As for the obvious implications of LaHair's position switch, baseball-ops honco Theo Epstein was tellingly coy: "You see the lineup tonight," Epstein told Sullivan. "We might be taking a look at players in different positions to allow the team to be in a position to succeed when we do potentially make a move."

The 22-year-old Rizzo is presently hitting .364/.426/.745 at Triple-A Iowa, so, yeah, a call-up is a tad overdue.
