Astros, Blue Jays make 10-player trade

The Blue Jays and Astros pulled off a trade on Friday. While none of the names involved makes it anything close to a "blockbuster," the deal did involve 10 names. Executive summary: Toronto fortified its major-league pitching staff, while Houston added some mid-grade prospects to the fold.

Here's who's going to the Jays by way of the Astros: RHP Brandon Lyon, LHP J.A. Happ and RHP David Carpenter.

And here's who's going to Houston: RHP Francisco Cordero,OF Ben Francisco, RHP Joe Musgrove, RHP Asher Wojciechowski, LHP David Rollins, C Carlos Perez, and a player to be named later.

From Toronto's standpoint, they add a useful reliever in Lyon and a functioning arm to add to the rotation in Happ. As for Carpenter, he could provide back-end relief help in Toronto or be kept at the Triple-A level for the time being.

Houston's haul includes veterans Cordero and Francisco, who aren't under contract beyond this season, and a pile of prospects that includes two former first rounders. "This is a very good deal for us," Astros GM Jeff Luhnow said in a statement. "Once again we are adding depth to our minor league system with quality young players. We really feel this will help us moving forward and are extremely excited about the players we've added to our organization."
