As expected, Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter has undergone surgery to repair his fractured left ankle, an injury he sustained in the 12th inning of Game 1 of the ALCS.

The team announced that Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte, N.C., performed the procedure. Recovery time is expected to be between four to five months. So, barring setback, Jeter should be ready for spring training.

Jeter, 38, is coming off a season in which he posted an OBP of .362 and led the majors in hits with 216. However, the question will be whether the injury affects his already limited range at short.
