Appearing at his foundation's annual fundraiser in Boston on Thursday, former Red Sox Kevin Youkilis said he has "good choices," but didn't expand on what those choices were.
Earlier Thursday, MLB.com's Bryan Hoch reported the Yankees have offered Youkilis a one-year contract worth $12 million, a report that was confirmed by CBSSports.com. The Indians are also reportedly interested in Youkilis.
"I've got good choices, I can't deny it, I have good choices and good people," Youkilis said, according to the Boston Herald. "Any time anyone wants you, that's a good choice. Some guys are sitting at home and want a job and not getting it."
While the Yankees offer a chance for Youkilis to slide back into the American League East and the thick of a pennant race, Youkilis would offer the Yankees stability at third base while they wait for Alex Rodriguez to return from hip surgery and also would allow Rodriguez to DH more once he returns. Youkilis would also DH.
In Cleveland, Youkilis would likely get a multi-year deal and have the comfort of playing for Terry Francona, his former manager with the Red Sox.
In addition to the Yankees and the Indians, the Twins are also known to be looking for a third baseman.
"We have a few teams we're talking to and discussing," Youkilis told the Herald. "There's nothing really final. We're just going through and I'm very fortunate. A lot of teams want me right now and we have a handful of good choices. I've just got to sit down with my family and agent and all that stuff. In due time, we'll find out."
