Closer J.J. Putz will be in Arizona for at least two more seasons, as the Diamondbacks have signed the veteran reliever to a one-year, $7-million contract extension. Putz was already under contract for 2013 for $6.5 million, and this deal ensures he'll remain a Diamondback for 2014, as well.

In parts of 10 major-league seasons, the 35-year-old Putz owns a 3.04 ERA, 547 strikeouts in 518 2/3 innings, a WHIP of 1.13 and 243 saves. In each of the last three seasons, Putz has posted a sub-3.00 ERA, and since becoming Arizona's closer he's converted on 89.5 percent of his save opportunities.

Oddity: In five different seasons, Putz has allowed exactly four home runs.
