VIDEO: Ump calls balls and strikes from behind mound

By Dayn Perry | Baseball Writer

In Tuesday's Angels-Brewers Cactus League game, home-plate umpire Seth Buckminster sustained a first-inning injury and had to be removed from the game. That left the umpiring crew short-handed, and, well, this is how they handled the calling of balls and strikes ...

There's that enterprising nature we know and love!

It's worth noting that up until the later years of the 19th century, umps made a habit of umpiring from behind the mound, and none other than James Loney would like them to resume doing so on a full-time basis.

For what it's worth, Tim McClelland absolutely nailed the two calls he made in the embedded video above!
