Hanley Ramirez to have surgery on injured thumb

Dodgers third baseman Hanley Ramirez will have surgery on his injured thumb, the team announced. He's expected to be out eight weeks.

Ramirez injured his thumb during the World Baseball Classic championship game. The 29-year-old was expected to open the season at shortstop.

Last season, Ramirez hit .257/.322/.437 in 667 plate appearances between the Marlins and Dodgers.
