MLB expects ruling on Mets' appeal by Friday

Joe Torre, the executive vice-president of on-field operations, said during a conference call Thursday that he hopes to have a ruling on the Mets' appeal of R.A. Dickey's potential no-hitter by Friday.

"I think it's reasonable," Torre said. "We'd like to do it before the weekend."

Torre said he's seen the play, in which Tampa Bay's B.J. Upton was given a hit when Mets third baseman David Wright tried to bare-hand a bouncer in the first inning, but would like to replay it from more angles.

But he won't be making the decision alone.

"What I'm going to do is to get the responses and opinions of several other people, Tony La Russa being one of them," Torre said. "Even though I've made these decisions on official scoring on a daily basis, obviously, with what's at stake here, I just want to make sure we give the decision every opportunity to get more than just my opinion on what I've seen."
