Domestic violence charge against Manny Ramirez dropped

By Matt Snyder | Baseball Writer
Manny Ramirez, now of the Oakland A's, was arrested back in late September on charges of misdemeanor battery. But he will not be prosecuted for the incident and is off the hook.

Ramirez was alleged to have slapped his wife Juliana during an argument, causing her to fall backward and hit her head against the headboard of their bed.

But it appears Juliana wasn't ready to pursue the charges, because a spokesman for Broward County State Attorney Michael Satz said Friday that the office was unable to serve a subpoena, according to the Associated Press.

Ramirez, 39, will be eligible to join the A's after serving a 50-game suspension -- due to testing positive for a banned substance prior to last season -- to open the season.
