David Wright has a fractured pinky finger

By Matt Snyder | Baseball Writer

Mets third baseman David Wright is out indefinitely with a fractured right pinky finger, CBSSports.com Insider Jon Heyman reports. Wright doesn't need surgery, but he will have the finger placed in a splint and his timetable for a return is unknown at this point.

Wright underwent X-rays on Tuesday after injuring the finger diving back into a base Monday night.

While it's obviously ridiculously early, this is bad timing for both Wright and the Mets. Wright is hitting .583/.647/.833 with a homer and four RBI as the Mets have stormed out of the gates to a 4-0 record.

Now, this is about the time where the Internet Tough Guys come out of the woodwork and start calling Wright names because he's sitting with an injured pinky. Save it, guys. This is a matter of performance by a finely tuned professional athlete. Wright has to be able to grip the bat well enough to swing and grip the ball well enough to throw it across the diamond. And he has to do these things with precision at a major-league level, not a beer-league softball level.

Ronny Cedeno will man third base in Wright's stead.
