The Giants have announced that they've signed left-hander Madison Bumgarner to a five-year contract extension.

CBSSports.com Insider Jon Heyman reports that Bumgarner will make a guaranteed $35 million and that the deal also includes two team/vesting options on top of the initial five years. Potentially, Bumgarner could be locked up through the 2019 season. As Insider Danny Knobler notes, that's the most money ever guaranteed to a pitcher with between one and two years of service time.

In 337.0 career innings at the highest level, Bumgarner boasts a career ERA+ of 119 and K/BB ratio of 3.70. He's also universally regarded as one of the most promising young pitchers in all of baseball.

Earlier this month, the Giants locked up right-hander Matt Cain to a five-year, $112.5-million extension.
