Report: Cardinals' Jon Jay returns to St. Louis for tests on right shoulder

Cardinals center fielder Jon Jay has returned to St. Louis to have his right shoulder examined, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

Jay ran into the center-field wall at Busch Stadium on Thursday trying to get to Drew Stubbs' seventh-inning homer.

Jay pinch-ran in Saturday's loss to the Pirates, but said Sunday he was having pain while taking batting practice on Sunday. The Cardinals said no structural damage was discovered in Thursday's exam, but he's expected to undergo more tests on Sunday. Jay said he hoped to re-join the team Monday in Chicago.

The Cardinals put first baseman Lance Berkman on the disabled list recently and his replacement on the roster, Skip Schumaker, hurt himself in a similar collision with a wall in Friday's game and is limited.

Jay, 27, is hitting .349/.391/.535 with two home runs so far this season.
