Ryan Zimmerman hopes to come off DL on Sunday

The inflammation in the throwing shoulder of Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman has improved enough that he expects to come off the disabled list on Sunday.

Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post reports that Zimmerman received an anti-inflammatory injection on Friday and was able to play catch on Tuesday. On Friday, he plans to hit, and if all goes well, he'll be activated in time to face the Phillies on Sunday night. “As long as I take groundballs and throw and stay in shape, hitting takes only two days,” Zimmerman said.

Zimmerman is hitting .224/.324/.345 on the season.

Upon his return, the question becomes whether phenom Bryce Harper, who replaced Zimmerman on the active roster, remains in the bigs or is sent back to Triple-A. It seems more likely that the recently called-up Tyler Moore will be dispatched to make room for Zimmerman, especially given manager Davey Johnson's enthusiasm for Harper.
