Yanks GM: Andy Pettitte will debut Sunday, no surgery date for Mariano Rivera

By C. Trent Rosecrans | Blogger
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman talked to reporters before Tuesday's game against the Rays and there were two pieces of news, passed along by CBSSports.com Insider Jon Heyman from Yankee Stadium.

1. Andy Pettitte will start for the Yankees Sunday against the Mariners. The 39-year-old lefty made four minor-league starts and went 0-2 with a 3.71 ERA. He gave up 19 hits and three walks, striking out 13 in 17 innings.

2. Despite a report of a "complication" with Mariano Rivera's injured knee, Cashman said Rivera's timetable is unchanged. No surgery is scheduled yet, he said. However, Cashman did say he doubted Rivera would be able to pitch again this season.

That said, he noted, "Mo's in good spirits."
