Cubs place Carlos Marmol on DL

By C. Trent Rosecrans | Blogger
Carlos MarmolThe Cubs placed former closer Carlos Marmol on the disabled list on Saturday with a strained right hamstring and called up right-hander Casey Coleman from Triple-A Iowa.

Marmol was sent back to Chicago to have an MRI on his hamstring. He suffered the injury in the seventh inning after facing four batters, allowing a hit, a walk and two runs.

Marmol started the season as the team's closer, but Cubs manager Dale Sveum has demoted Marmol and is using Rafael Dolis and James Russell in save situations.

Coleman, a 24-year-old right-hander, was 2-3 with a 3.48 ERA in seven games at Iowa, with six starts. In parts of two seasons with the Cubs, Coleman is 7-11 with a 5.48 ERA in 31 games and 25 starts.
