Reds to honor Chipper Jones with special bases

By C. Trent Rosecrans | Blogger
Chipper Jones

Every team seems to have a tribute and gift for retiring Braves third baseman Chipper Jones, but the Reds may be the first one to honor for an entire series. The Reds will use special bases (seen above) for the Braves' four-game series at Great American Ball Park to honor Jones in addition to a ceremony before Thursday's game.

The Reds will give one of the bases to Jones, one to the Braves for their Hall of Fame and the Reds will keep one for use at their Hall of Fame.

What's funny is I just noticed on Facebook last night that one of my former interns got a similar gift for her recent wedding. A huge Reds fan, someone bought one of the bases used at the Reds-Nationals game on the day of her wedding as a wedding gift, which I thought was a unique gift -- or at least more memorable than a plate. So kudos to the Thompson family in Cincinnati for giving one of the better weding gifts I've ever seen.
