Astros place Carlos Lee on disabled list, recall Brett Wallace

By Matt Snyder | Baseball Writer
The Astros have placed first baseman Carlos Lee on the disabled list with a strained hamstring, the club announced Sunday. As a corresponding move, Brett Wallace has been recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Losing Lee is a big blow for the Astros, especially as they're reeling in the midst of an eight-game losing streak. The 36-year-old is hitting .297/.348/.411 with four homers, 23 RBI and 18 runs. He served as the veteran anchor in the middle of the order for Houston.

Wallace, 25, will attempt to fill the void. Once a touted prospect, Wallace didn't fully pan out in Houston in 2010 or 2011 and opened this season without a job on the big-league roster.

Wallace was hitting .265/.327/.476 with 10 homers, 37 RBI and 28 runs in 50 Triple-A games before Sunday's promotion. He's been hot lately, though, with three homers (including a grand slam Saturday night) and eight RBI in the past four games.
