Gerardo Parra's touching moment

By Matt Snyder | Baseball Writer
The Diamondbacks beat the Padres 6-0 Sunday, sending San Diego to its 11th loss in the last 13 games. The big story Sunday was Trevor Cahill throwing a shutout.

Outfielder Gerardo Parra hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning to give the Diamondbacks their fifth and sixth runs. Normally, that at-bat wouldn't really be much of a story. But the backstory, provided by D-Backs beat writer Nick Piecoro, does the job:

We obviously have no idea what propelled Parra to reach out to the lucky lady, but does it matter? It's a cool story, so let's just enjoy it.
