Outfielder Gerardo Parra hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning to give the Diamondbacks their fifth and sixth runs. Normally, that at-bat wouldn't really be much of a story. But the backstory, provided by D-Backs beat writer Nick Piecoro, does the job:
Gerardo Parra asked an old lady near Dbacks dugout to touch his bat. If he got a hit, he'd give it to her. He homered. And gave her the bat.— Nick Piecoro (@nickpiecoro) June 4, 2012
We obviously have no idea what propelled Parra to reach out to the lucky lady, but does it matter? It's a cool story, so let's just enjoy it.
