Pratfalls aplenty in Indians-Reds 5th

By Dayn Perry | Baseball Writer

In the fifth inning of Thursday's Indians-Reds game, the two Ohio label-mates teamed up to provide the viewer with two GIF-worthy moments.

First, Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco, in the midst of being hung up between third and home, executed a flop that will surely be the envy of any FIFA combatant ...

Devin Mesoraco

As you can plainly see, Mr. Mesoraco was the painfully obvious initiator of contact, but the best/worst part is that he was allowed to score via an interference call on Cleveland catcher Lou Marson.

Then comes the perhaps irrational exuberance of Tribe first baseman Carlos Santana, who executes a Jeterian dive into the stands in pursuit of a foul ball and, in the words of Reds color commentator Chris Welsh, found a "soft landing spot" ...

And as great as video can be, sometimes a still photo is better at capturing a moment, and Associated Press photographer Al Behrman proves that with this shot:

Carlos Santana

No one was hurt, and we appreciate the effort on both sides.
