Andre Ethier leaves game with oblique injury

By Dayn Perry | Baseball Writer

Andre EthierWith the uncertain status of Matt Kemp and ongoing regressions elsewhere on the roster, the last thing the struggling Dodger offense needs is an injury to Andre Ethier.

But that's exactly what's happened.

In the first inning of Wednesday's game against the hard-charging Giants, Ethier was injured on what looked like a routine slide into second base. After conferring with trainers, he was removed from the game. The team later announced he strained an oblique muscle.

If it forces him to the DL (always a distinct possibility with oblique maladies), then one shudders to think what the Dodger lineup would look like without Kemp and Ethier.

On the season, Ethier is hitting .291/.357/.491, and he ranks third in the NL with 23 doubles. Earlier this month, he signed a six-year, $95.5-million contract extension with a vesting option for 2018.
