Rockies' Jorge De La Rosa might miss rest of season

Jorge De La RosaColorado lefty Jorge De La Rosa underwent Tommy John surgery in early June of last year, which meant that the Rockies were hoping he'd be able to contribute at some point this season -- perhaps even for the majority of 2012. However, as Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports, that's looking less and less likely.

Because his recovery isn't progressing as planned or hoped, De La Rosa has been shut down until at least September, and it's an increasing possibility that he won't pitch at all this year. Needless to say, this is bad news for a Rockies team with grave rotation problems.

Since being acquired early in 2008 season from the Royals, the 31-year-old De La Rosa has enjoyed a solid run in Colorado. In 495.2 innings as a Rockie, De La Rosa has a solid ERA+ of 108. Even in Coors Field, he boasts a respectable-in-context career ERA of 4.63.

Of course, the Rockies are playing for nothing more than draft position this season, so giving De La Rosa all the time he needs is obviously the wise tack.
