D-backs would like Daron Sutton to stop wearing suits

By Dayn Perry | Baseball Writer

Daron Sutton

Pictured above left, alongside broadcast partner Mark Grace, is Diamondbacks' television play-by-play man Daron Sutton.

As you can see, Mr. Sutton is wearing a suit. It seems Mr. Sutton prefers to wear suits. It also seems that the Diamondbacks would prefer that he not wear suits. Reportedly, that essential dispute, which has long divided us as a people, is the underlying cause of Sutton's recent suspension from his duties.

Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic has the story:

A source confirmed that dispute to The Republic, saying that while the club prefers its broadcast team to wear polo shirts adorned with the Diamondbacks logo, Sutton has lobbied to wear suits.

He made at least one veiled reference to the dispute on the air during the last game he called, an afternoon game against the Seattle Mariners on June 20.

Without going into detail, another source said the Diamondbacks have had various issues with Sutton for years.

Here you have an employer upset that an employee is too well dressed for the workplace. Whatever this is, it isn't your father's Oldsmobile.

It's not certain when Sutton, who's in his sixth season on the job in Arizona, will be back in the booth.

It's also not certain what he'll be wearing.
