One batter into the fourth inning against the Tigers on Friday night, Orioles ace Jason Hammel was forced to leave the game with an injury to his right knee -- the same knee he recently had drained. Hammel will undergo an MRI at 1:00 pm ET on Saturday.

"I was driving toward the plate and it didn't feel good," The Baltimore Sun's Dan Connolly quotes Hammel as saying. "Something felt really bad. It's the same area as the injury was before. It's kind of just day to day. As of right now, we don't really know what's going on here. It was something that just happened on that pitch. I mean, the normal things I've been dealing with since the actual original injury happened, it hasn't changed. Nothing felt like a pop or anything like that.”

On the season, the 29-year-old Hammel has a 3.47 ERA in 106.1 innings. It goes without saying that the perilously thin Baltimore rotation can't afford to lose Hammel for any significant amount of time.
