Carlos Zambrano apologizes to Cubs fans

Carlos Zambrano spent the first 11 years of his major-league career with the Cubs. His tenure was an extreme roller-coaster ride, which significant highs and equally deep lows. His exit came last season after he stormed out of the clubhouse, talking of retirement, and the Cubs refused to allow him back. He was then traded this past offseason to Miami.

Tuesday, the Marlins started a road series against the Cubs, so it marked Zambrano's return to his former home. His message to reporters was that of apology and accountability.

First, the apology: "I still love these fans. Once again, I apologize for any inconvenience and anything that I did. The only thing that I wanted to do in Chicago is win, and I really apologize to the Cubs fans and the people here who treated me good." (

And then some refreshing accountability: "The problem was not with the Cubs. The problem was Carlos Zambrano. That's why Carlos Zambrano is now with the Miami Marlins. If you have to blame somebody, blame me. Things didn't work out the last three years because of me. That's all I can say. I am responsible for my acts." (

It's still tough to believe Zambrano is a completely changed man, but we have to point out he hasn't had any attitude issues this season. At some point, everyone deserves a fresh start.
