Hawk Harrelson doesn't feel like talking right now

By Dayn Perry | Baseball Writer

White Sox play-by-play man Hawk Harrelson is nothing if not divisive. South Siders love the nakedly partisan broadcaster, while those loyal to other teams find him insufferable.

What can be agreed upon, though, is that his reactions following White Sox losses are to be treasured. When those losses occur in sudden and shocking fashion -- which is what happened Thursday night in Boston -- Harrelson is reduced to what can best be described as "smoldering silence." Watch and listen as Cody Rossruins everything ...

I count a full 40 seconds between Harrelson's resigned final words and the point at which color-man Steve Stone tiptoes in with some "I suppose someone should say something" flavor of narration.

Whereas the peerless Vin Scully's occasional moments of silence are motivated by a craftsman's urge to let the game do the talking, Harrelson's can be classified as "too pissed to speak."
