Mets option Lucas Duda to Triple-A

Mets outfielder/first baseman Lucas Duda has been optioned to Triple-A Buffalo, the club has announced.

With Jason Bay returning from the disabled list and Ike Davis hitting the ball well (.280 average with 10 homers and a .600 slugging percentage since June 8), the Mets apparently don't feel like they have a place for Duda.

He has struggled of late, too, as Duda is hitting .138/.273/.200 with just two extra base hits since June 24. Perhaps everyday at-bats for Buffalo will help get him back on track.

Bay isn't exactly murdering the ball himself, hitting .186/.252/.361 with five homers and eight RBI this season in 107 plate appearances, however, he's making $16 million this season (and owed that much next season, too) and doesn't have minor-league options on his contract. So, unfortunately for the Mets, they weren't left with much choice.

The Mets have lost 10 of their last 11 games and have fallen nine games back in the NL East; 5.5 behind the second wild-card spot.
