Giants place Pablo Sandoval on disabled list

Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval has been placed on the 15-day DL after suffering a rather cringe-inducing hamstring injury on Tuesday.

Sandoval is hitting a productive .299/.352/.491 on the season, but he's already missed 35 games after undergoing wrist surgery in May.

To replace Sandoval on the roster, the Giants have activated 1B/OF Aubrey Huff.

The newly acquired Marco Scutaro may see some time at third in Sandoval's absence, but he would obviously be a substantial downgrade with the bat. Of course, Scutaro hasn't played third since 2008, so that means Joaquin Arias might be the regular third baseman while Sandoval is laid up. In either case, the Giants will be measurably worse off at the position until Sandoval returns.
