Brandon Phillips leaves game with cramping in left calf

Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips has left Sunday's game against the Rockies with an injury. Reporters in the press box (like John Fay) were told that Phillips had cramping in his left calf and was removed as a precautionary measure. Assuming this story doesn't change, don't expect Phillips to miss any time.

The latter news should come as a huge relief for the Reds. They came into Sunday riding a nine-game winning streak, despite playing without superstar Joey Votto. Phillips has been a big part of it, too, as he hit .394/.417/.697 with two home runs, four doubles and 10 RBI in those nine games. He kept things going Sunday, too, as he was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI before departing. And we haven't even mentioned his always-stellar defense.

The Reds entered Sunday tied with the Nationals and Yankees for the best record in baseball.
