Even though an MRI of A.J. Griffin's injured shoulder turned up no structural damage, the 24-year-old right-hander has hit the disabled list with inflammation.

Griffin was forced to depart his Saturday start because of discomfort in his right shoulder.

On the season, Griffin boasts a 2.42 ERA and 3.50 K/BB ratio across eight starts.

Although the move can be considered precautionary in nature, the pace of Griffin's recovery bears monitoring. Fortunately for the A's, ace Brandon McCarthy may be ready to rejoin the rotation before Griffin's spot comes up again.
