Video: Yankees' Cody Eppley hit in the head

Is America's Funniest Home Videos still around? If so, Yankees right-hander may just have a shot at the $10,000 prize against that cute baby and the hilarious cat.

Third baseman Eric Chavez was the guilty party.

"Normally, he looks up," Chavez told MLB.com. "I don't know what happened, to be honest with you. Obviously he got a new ball, which I didn't know. I apologized. Of all the places to hit him, right in the head."

After Detroit's Jhonny Peralta grounded out to third for the second out, the Yankees tossed the ball around the infield and home plate umpire Bob Davidson tossed Eppley a new ball. After being checked out by Yankees manager Joe Girardi and a trainer, Eppley stayed in the game.

"I didn't even feel it," Eppley said afterward, according to ESPNNewYork.com.

The 26-year-old gave up a single to Alex Avila and then an RBI double to Andy Dirks, who was thrown out at third to end the inning. He allowed another hit while facing two batters in the seventh before being replaced by Clay Rapada with two outs in the seventh. Eppley's appeared in 38 games for the Yankees this season and has a 3.19 ERA.
