Indians fire pitching coach Scott Radinsky

By Matt Snyder | Baseball Writer

Behold, more scapegoat firing in Major League Baseball. Fresh off the heels of breaking a season-ruining 11-game losing streak, the Indians have fired pitching coach Scott Radinsky and replaced him with Ruben Niebla on an interim basis.

The Indians entered Wednesday 9 1/2 games out in the AL Central, with a 51-60 record. They're 4-16 since July 18, so obviously someone has to get canned. I guess they decided the pitching was more at fault than the hitting, so the pitching coach gets the ax.

The Indians bring in the AL's 13th-ranked ERA at 4.74. They rank dead last in the AL with a 1.43 WHIP. Still, things have been far worse since the All-Star break, as the Indians have a 5.55 ERA and 1.61 WHIP. Both figures are worst in the AL.

And how about this: Since the All-Star break, opposing teams have an .834 OPS against the Indians. For comparitive purposes, Adrian Beltre has an .836 OPS right now. So the Indians are making every lineup -- 1-9 -- look like a team full of Adrian Beltres. That's a tough way to win baseball games.

We'll see if the change in pitching coach helps.
