Roy Oswalt has become the Rangers' $5 million spot starter.

Last weekend he stepped in for Ryan Dempster, who stepped away for "personal reasons," and Thursday he will start for Yu Darvish, who will miss his start with tightness in his right quadriceps, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Oswalt will be on regular rest after pitching 4 2/3 innings at Toronto on Saturday in a 2-1 victory over the Blue Jays.

According to the report, Darvish issued a statement saying he doesn't consider himself to be injured, but that the coaching staff decided he could use a few extra days of rest. Darvish first complained of discomfort on Tuesday during a bullpen session.

Oswalt is 4-2 with a 6.04 ERA in 10 outings for the Rangers, including seven starts. He was moved from the rotation to the bullpen when the Rangers acquired Dempster, but he's only pitched three games out of the bullpen.
