Dodgers right-hander Chad Billingsley was forced to exit his Friday start because of elbow inflammation, and now he's been placed on the 15-day disabled list. The same injury previously landed Billingsley to the DL back in July.

Fortunately for the Dodgers, they pulled off a recent trade of some minor note, and that means the newly acquired Josh Beckett will step into the breach. Beckett will make his Dodgers debut on Monday against the Rockiesin Coors Field.

This season, the 28-year-old Billingsley has a 3.55 ERA in 149.2 innings pitched, and he sports a 1.80 ERA in the second half.

As for Beckett, he's been disappointing thus far in 2012 (5.23 ERA in 127.1 innings pitched for Boston), but getting out of the DH league and into Dodger Stadium -- plus the motivation of being dropped into a heated pennant race -- should help Beckett fare better going forward.

With that said, Coors Field might not make the most accommodating environment for his first start as a Dodger.
