"It's likely that if he doesn't have a real miraculous recovery tonight, we'll have a DL situation tomorrow," Valentine said Sunday afternoon (via CSNNE.com).
Ortiz was activated from the DL on Friday after being sidelined with a right Achilles tendon strain. He played Friday, but didn't play Saturday or Sunday.
Before the game, Valentine confirmed reports the team is considering shutting Ortiz down for the season. Ortiz said he would likely decide the matter sometime on Sunday.
"We're probably there," Valentine said (again, via CSNNE.com). "We're just giving him a couple of days to see. He said that the practice and game, there's just that little level of adrenaline that differentiates. When he hit the double [Friday] and he turned to second, he was uncomfortable, where he was comfortable doing those things in practice.
"We're definitely not going to do anything to jeopardize David's career. David totally wants to do everything he can to be part of this team for as long as he can this year and into the future. So, that's what we're dealing with."
