According to Mattingly, Kershaw's left hip injury still is considered "serious," but "it didn't sound too bad." And while there are no bullpen sessions scheduled for Kershaw, Mattingly said there's still a chance Kershaw returns this season (all updates via Dylan Hernandez on Twitter).
Another takeaway from the examination is that Kershaw can pitch through the injury -- assuming he can deal with the pain -- without risking further future injury. However, the Dodgers will not allow Kershaw to pitch in pain (MLB.com).
So, basically, this is a bit of a nonupdate, except that Kershaw's season still isn't officially over. Time to insert that "so you're telling me there's a chance" line from Dumb and Dumber, right?
Kershaw, 24, is 12-9 with a 2.70 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 206 strikeouts in 206 2/3 innings pitched this season. He won the NL Cy Young Award last season.
The Dodgers enter Tuesday's action only one game behind the Cardinals for the final NL playoff spot.
