Mike Trout's 30th home run historic

By Matt Snyder | Baseball Writer
Trout's amazing rookie season is now statistically historic. (US Presswire)

Angels rookie center fielder Mike Trout has made history. In the top of the seventh inning Sunday in the first game of a doubleheader against the Rangers, Trout homered to dead center field. It was his 30th home run of the season.

Trout also stole his 48th base earlier in the game, so his power-speed combo has been illustrated in the affair. But the most significant achievement is the 30th home run.

Trout, 21, has become the youngest person in major-league history to hit 30 homers and steal 30 bases in a season. He's also the first rookie in MLB history with 30 homers and 40 steals (via MLB PR). On top of that, Angels public relations have noted that Trout is the first player in major-league history with 30 homers, 45 steals and 125 runs in a season.

Trout's homer only cut the Rangers' lead to 4-3, and a loss would be a huge blow to the Angels' already dim hopes of reaching the playoffs. UPDATE: The Angels won, 5-4, on the strength of a two-RBI double from Torii Hunter.

What an amazing -- and historic -- rookie season for Trout.
