Saturday night's Game 1 of the ALCS ended up being pretty awesome. Everyone who legitimately thinks of themself as a baseball fan would agree that Raul Ibanez's game-tying homer in the bottom of the ninth was outstanding theater, even if it made you angry as a Tigers fan/Yankees hater.
Then again, sanity seems optional these days, so it wasn't surprising when the following tweets made a good amount of Red Sox fans on Twitter angry:
Ibañez!— Cody Ross (@IamCodyRoss) October 14, 2012
This is simply insane... #raul— Will Middlebrooks (@middlebrooks) October 14, 2012
What followed was an onslaught of profanity-laced nonsense to the two Red Sox players (Note: Cody Ross is a free agent, so it's possible he never wears a Red Sox uniform again). Ross then noted he lost "half his followers."
It's pretty sad when people have gotten to the point that they wish to cuss players out for not having the exact same feelings as them. It's not like Middlebrooks and Ross were rooting for the Yankees.
Middlebrooks said it pretty well when he replied to a disgruntled fan to "get a life," but this is pretty good, too:
I love baseball. Love playing. Love watching. Love seeing guys come up clutch in big situations. It's why we all play the game.— Will Middlebrooks (@middlebrooks) October 14, 2012
It's too bad some are too small-minded and self-involved to understand that.
