Contrasting glove slams: Ted Lilly '07 vs. Phil Coke '12

By Matt Snyder | Baseball Writer

After clinching victory in Game 4 of the ALCS, the Tigers were World Series-bound. And unlikely bullpen hero Phil Coke came through with a pretty stellar spiking of his glove.

Check it out, around the 13-second mark:

Immediately after viewing this, I wondered (via tweet) what was better: Coke's slam or Ted Lilly's during the 2007 NLDS in Arizona.

Lilly was pitching for the Cubs and coughed up an early lead on a 3-run homer to Chris Young. And the criminally undersized GIF has lived on the Internet for five years. Here:

The interesting thing here is the contrast. One spike was celebratory, and the other was in anger. I think we have to say Coke's was "better," due to it being excitement instead of rage. Or do we? Lilly's game wasn't over, and rarely do we see pitchers do something like this during the game.

Tough call. Get in on the voting.
