NL Cy Young favorite R.A. Dickey, who's entering the final season of his contract with the Mets, tells Marc Carig of Newsday that talks regarding an extension are looking up ...
Dickey says his contract talks have progressed with Mets. He feels the frqnchise is going the right direction.— Marc Carig (@MarcCarig) November 7, 2012
While there's no assailing the excellence of Dickey's Cy-caliber 2012 season or his compelling personal narrative, the Mets are in essence traveling without a map when it comes to assessing Dickey's future value. After all, what do you expect going forward from a pitcher who throws an 80-plus-mph knuckleball and, at age 38, is coming off his breakout campaign? Needless to say, there aren't many past models to inform the discussions.
Still, Dickey seems a good bet to keep it up for the near-term, and the Mets these days can use all the "brand-building" they can get.
